The first week of sociology for me was very interesting. For once I didn't know I was going to learn about history in this class, but I'm glad I did. I learned about the Enlightenment and how it's related to sociology and how people's mentally use to be back then until one John Locke opened up on his view on society and the world and it changed everyone's perspective on the world. I enjoyed listening to how the scientific ideas were understood more and people didn't depend so much on the gods to deal with the problems in their life.
This class is very interesting and makes you think outside the box, so far I am very intrigued with the class. I enjoy how Professor Applewhite talks about his personal experiences with the class and relates to us, which makes me feel more comfortable to express myself in the class.
I see myself expanding my knowledge in this class.

Who Katherine Ramirez really is...
Born and raised in Washington Heights, Moroccan and Dominican blood running through my veins, fluent in English, Spanish and French, and a Student of life. That pretty much sums up who I am, yet some details are left unsaid.
I consider myself a writer, I have been writing short stories since I was merely 7 years old, since then my dream has always been to publish my own book, and become a well known author. I want to put my ideas out there so the world could take from them. Also, I have been in ballet since I was 3 years old and in belly dancing since I was 4. My mother wanted me to bring some of our Moroccan roots to good use to and I am very glad she did. With belly dancing I feel free and have learned so much about my culture.
My plans were never to enroll in this school, but when obstacles got in my way, I had no other choice. Now I am very glad I joined this school, because I have met wonderful Professors, people and have seen so much diversity in the few months I have been in this school, yet eventually, I'm going to need to graduate and proceed to my bachelors which I hope I would be able to do in Binghamton University to continue on with my Teaching degree. And when I become a teacher, I would like to open a children's book store in an urban area for the children who families can't afford to buy books.
Throughout my life, my family travels a lot, I have been to Paris, Jamaica, Canada, Las Vegas, Dominican Republic, Cancun, Puerto Rico, etc. and ever since i could remember i have been interested in cultures and the different people and their mentally. I want to know why people do the things they do and why are the things that are right for them wrong for us, this is why I believe that this sociology class is an excellent class for me to expand my knowledge about the things I love to learn about, and it will answer my unanswered questions about the people.
I am always willing to learn new things and go through new experiences, hopefully this class will help me with that.
